Topic: Besides and Beside |
5 September 2002 |
Hello, my dear readers. I have headaches for you again. Besides and beside are
both prepositions, but they do have totally different meanings.
Besides with an -s means in addition
to or except for something or someone.
For example:
Besides the bathing suit, you should also bring suntan lotion.
The chairperson would be discussing the sales revenue besides the general topics on the agenda.
Besides the Jones, the Adams invited no one.
Beside without an -s means near
or on the side of something.
For example:
Would you like to come and sit beside me?
The bank is beside the bakery.
I put your telephone message beside your computer. Did you see it?
Note:
Besides = in addition to
Beside = next to |
