Personal is usually mistaken for
personnel because of the latter's unusual spelling and
because most people don't know that the word actually exists.
Personal is an adjective. It means private, concerning only one person.
For example:
I have personal business to attend to;
therefore, I will be a little late.
He wouldn't tell his friends what he said to his girlfriend. It's personal.
You don't mix your personal life with work.
Sometimes bad personal life can ruin a career.
Personnel is a noun.
We usually say personnel department or office personnel.
It means staff or people in a job.
For example:
Please take this document to the personnel department.
All office personnel should report to the manager.
