This week we will discuss another pair of words that many people take for granted that they
mean the same. In fact, they are slightly different. That's why it's confusing.
Dangerous means being able to cause damage. It has the sense of sudden damage,
risk and jeopardy. Drinking and driving may be dangerous in the sense that it can cause accidents.
But generally, it is harmful to your health. Machines and electrical appliances can be dangerous since
many things can go wrong.
He lives a very dangerous life.
It's dangerous to put your tools all over the place. Someone might step on them.
The area near construction is dangerous.
Poisonous animals are dangerous.
Life saving operation can be dangerous if medical staff is not skillful.
Harmful is bad for your health in the sense of injury.
The damage can be either physical or psychological.
Some cosmetics and UV are harmful to your skin.
Harmful weapons are not allowed in public places.
A leakage in a pipe in a nuclear power plant generates harmful radiation.
Hanging out with bad friends is harmful to his reputation.
