Maybe and may be sound alike, and thats why they cause so much confusion.
Wipe your memory of the word clean and take in this new lesson.
Dont try to understand how you got confused in the first place.
Just try to learn the correct usage.
Maybe is an adverb of degree.
It has the same meaning as perhaps, possibly, or likely.
We use maybe at the beginning of a sentence.
For example:
Maybe he will come.
Maybe she is too tired.
Maybe things get better.
Maybe they have changed their minds.
May is a modal verb or helping verb. It is used with the base form of the verb.
It can be used with other verbs, andor coursewith the verb to be.
For example:
He may come later.
Things may get better.
She may be too tired.
He may be the person you are looking for.
They may be right.
They may be looking for you.
