Topic: Fit / tight / and loose |
21 Mar 2002 |
Before we buy clothes, some of us like to try on the clothes in the fitting
room to see if they fit.
Fit
is a verb. If clothes fit you, it means that they are right for you. They are
your size and you look great in them. They are not too big or too small. If they are too small,
they are too tight for you. And big clothes are too loose
for you. Tight and loose are adjectives.
Let's study the following conversation between a shop assistant and a customer.
This is after the customer tried on a couple of skirts in a fitting room. |
| Shop assistant : |
Does any of them fit, ma'am? |
| Customer : |
The blue one is too loose. I'm afraid it might fall off when I move. |
| Shop assistant : |
So size 34 is too loose. Would you like to try on a smaller one? |
| Customer : |
I don't think so. The brown one is size 32 and it is too tight around the hips.
None of them seems to fit me. |
Note: |
'Tight' is too small.
'Loose' is too big. 'Fit' is perfect! |
