Topic: One another/ each other |
16 May 2002 |
Since other refers to specific ideas (one of the two), each other also connotes specificity.
We use each other when we talk about an interaction between two people.
For example:
The first time Jack and Rose looked at each other, they fell in love.
The twin sisters usually look alike, but do not like each other.
My dog and cat don't get along with each other. They like to fight with each other.
One another has the same meaning, but it is used when we talk about more than two people.
For example:
Everyone in my family loves one another.
The people present at the meeting blankly looked at one another while waiting for the chairperson.
I have three brothers. They don't like one another.
