Hello, guys. How is school? How do you like your school, teachers, and new subjects? I
can already many of your moaning that you don't like your teachers because they are
"serious". Serious is actually a good thing in the western cultures.
Joking around all time can be very boring. But Thai people like to have fun and
don't like people who take things seriously.
Another way to interpret this is that what you mean is that your teachers
are strict or uptight. Being strict and uptight is not good either. The two words
can have rather negative meanings.
A serious person shows a great interest in something or is deeply involved with
something. A serious student studies hard. The word serious implies a concern with
responsibility and work. It has the same meaning as attentive and concentrated is opposite to playful.
If your teachers or parents are strict, they like to make rules and they are not flexible.
Being strict is not completely bad. Sometimes it shows good discipline.
If a person is uptight, he or she hardly lets go and takes things too seriously all
the time. He/she might be stressed out from work. To be uptight and stressed is not
good for his/her own health. An uptight person looks angry at everything while a stressed
person is pressured and can look tired as well as angry.
So next time, if your teachers or parents get serious, you should like it and stop playing.
But don't get too stressed out about work or school or even life, O.K.? Take it easy and I will see
you next week.
