It's canoeing time. We got up early in
the morning and explore Klong Noi,
a branch off the the Chao Phraya
River in Ayutthaya by canoe. Robert
showed us all the paddling techniques.
They looked simple enough. We
had 6 boats so we must take turns.
We paired up and paddled along
the canal to see the Thai lives along
the river. It's so peaceful and I envied
all of the people whose lives were
so relaxed. The Thai kids had no
canoeing experience, what so ever.
We paddled in circle for hours.
Actually we have only 45 minutes
each. Luckily, our American peers
had some skills. Still, whirling around
was much more fun. Everybody except
me had a buddy because I'm a teacher.
I didn't have partner. What a bomber!
I had one of the crew members paddle
for me though. I wanted to freeze time.

ได้เวลาพายเรือคานูแล้ว เราตื่นกันแต่เช้าเพื่อเที่ยวชม
คลองน้อยซึ่งแยกออกมาจากเจ้าพระยาในจังหวัดอยุธยา
โรเบิร์ทสอนเทคนิคการพายเรือให้กับเรา ฟังดูไม่ยากเลย
เรามีเรือ 6ลำ เราจึงต้องผลัดกัน เราจับคู่กันพายไปตาม
ลำคลองเพื่อดูชีวิตผู้คนที่อยู่ริมคลอง มันช่างสงบสุขดีจริง
ฉันอิจฉาคนที่มีชิวิตเรียบง่ายจัง เด็กไทยไม่เคยพายเรือ
มาก่อน เราพายกันเป็นวงกลม ที่จริงเรามีเวลาแค่ 45
นาที โชคดีที่เพื่อนชาวอเมริกันของเรามีทักษะการพาย
เรือกันบ้าง เราเลยอดพายเรือเป็นวงกลม ซึ่งสนุกกว่า
เป็นกอง ทุกคนมีคู่ยกเว้นฉัน เพราะฉันเป็นอาจารย์ แย่
จริงๆ ลูกเรือคนหนึ่งจึงพายเรือให้ฉันนั่งเป็นคุณนาย
เฉยๆ ฉันอยากหยุดเวลาไว้จริงๆ

Finally, someone called me on
the phone! It's Pin. This is what we
call a true friend. My phone hadn't
rung at all until then. We had a nice
talk. If you want to know what we
talked about, you've got to ask
the Chao Phraya River because
I left it with her.

ในที่สุดก็มีคนโทรมาหาฉัน พินนั่นเองนี่สิถึงเรียกว่า
เพื่อนแท้ โทรศัพท์ฉันไม่ดังมานานแล้วเราคุยกันสนุกมาก
ถ้าเธออยากรู้ว่าเราคุยอะไรกันคงต้องไปถามแม่เจ้า
พระยานะจ๊ะ เพราะว่าฉันทิ้งมันไว้ตรงนั้น

At night, we gathered around in
the bedroom and told ghost stories.
Even after the lights went out, we
hanged onto one another in the dark.
We were not supposed to do this.
we kept our eye on the entrance
where we could see the light coming.
When we saw someone coming,
we all rushed back to our bed.
It was not much fun. After a while,
I said to myself, "Wait a minute.
Aren't I supposed to stop them?"
Actually I led the gang. Why
should I miss all the fun, right?

ตกกลางคืนเราไปสุมหัวกันอยู่ในห้องนอนและเล่าเรื่องผี
แม้ว่าเขาจะดับไฟแล้ว เราก็ยังคงเม้ากันต่อ จริงๆ เราไม่
ควรทำอย่างนี้หรอก เราช่วยกันจับตาดูประตู พอเห็นใคร
เข้ามาเราก็รีบปีนกลับเตียง ไม่ค่อยสนุกเท่าไหร่เลย
สักพักฉันนึกขึ้นได้ว่า "เอ ฉันควรที่จะห้ามเขานะ" แต่ที่
จริงฉันนี่แหละหัวโจก ใครจะอดใจไหว จริงไหม

Everybody had fun. Jordan was fun.
Yesterday he bought a green sarong
from Talad Thai, claiming it's for
his mom. He was wearing it.
I couldn't help being shocked every
time I saw him even though I know
that in some cultures, such as in
Scotland, Mianmar, and Malaysia,
men wear Sarongs or skirts.

ทุกคนสนุกมาก จอร์แดนเป็นคนตลกมาก เมื่อวานเขาซื้อ
โสร่งสีเขียวมาจากตลาดไท เขาบอกว่าซื้อไปฝากแม่
แต่กลับเอามาใส่เอง ฉันอดช็อคไม่ได้ที่เห็นเขาใส่ผ้าถุง
ทั้งที่ฉันเข้าใจว่าในบางวัฒนธรรมเช่น ในสก็อตแลนด์
พม่า และมาเลเซีย ผู้ชายนุ่งผ้าถุง

Before lunch, we played the killer game.
In this game there was a killer and a sheriff.
The rest is town people. We would die
five seconds after the killer winked at us.
The sheriff had to find the killer before
everyone was killed off. A few seconds
after we started, people fell down and died.
I was a town person and was curious
who the killer was. Before I knew it,
Walker, 14, the youngest in the group
winked at me. I fell like one of those
girls in the Axe commercial. My heart
flew from my body and rested on
Walker. He was so cute. That's
all I had to say about that.

ก่อนอาหารกลางวันเราเล่นเกมฆาตกรกัน มีฆาตกรคน
หนึ่งและตำรวจคนหนึ่ง ที่เหลือเป็นชาวบ้าน ชาวบ้านต้อง
ตายห้าวินาทีหลังจากที่ฆาตกรฆ่าเราด้วยการขยิบตาให้
ตำรวจต้องหาคนร้ายให้ได้ก่อนที่เขาจะฆ่าชาวบ้านหมด
ตำบล ไม่กี่วินาทีหลังจากเกมเริ่ม ชาวบ้านเริ่มล้มตาย
ฉันเป็นชาวบ้านคนหนึ่งและสงสัยเหมือนกันว่าใครเป็น
ฆาตกร ก่อนที่ฉันจะรู้ตัว บักหำน้อยวอร์คเกอร์ อายุ 14
ปี ซึ่งเด็กที่สุดในแก๊งก็ขยิบตาให้ฉัน ให้ตายสิ ฉันรู้สึก
เหมือนสาวๆ ในโฆษณาแอกซ์ หัวใจฉันหลุดลอยออก
จากร่าง และไปสิงสถิตย์อยู่ที่วอร์คเกอร์
