The barge is fun. The American kids
are very nice. They are college students
from California and they have been
friends since seventh grade. They are
just lovable people, so are our Thai kids.
I don't feel like I'm working at all.
We stopped by at Koh Kret to explore
the island and to interview some local
people. I learned a lot from my own country
and its history again. Koh Kret has been
inhabited by Mon from Mianmar since the
reign of King Rama I. According to Thai law,
aliens were not allowed to grow rice.
Therefore, they made pottery and had fruit
orchards instead. We also stopped by at
a Fresh market in Patum Tanee. In the
afternoon we studied the role of the water
hyacinth in the Chao Phraya river. We
learned that it was originally form Brazil.
About ten years ago the river was covered
with water hyacinth and the Chao Pharaya
looked like it was covered with a big green
carpet. Garbage was collected on them
so they are the devil of the Chao Phraya.
But today we also learned that water hyacinth
also plays a hero role. Many lives in the river
actually depend on it. We looked through
the roots and pulled out all the living thing
we saw out. We can determine the quality
of the water by looking at the animals that
live in it. We got segmented warms,
snails with doors and without doors,
crabs and even shrimp.

ไปล่องเรื่อสนุกมากเด็กอเมริกันน่ารักมากพวกเขาเป็น

ของฉันเองและประวัติศาสตร์ของเราเกาะเกร็ดเป็นที่ตั้ง
ถิ่นฐานของชุมชนมอญซึ่งอพยพมาจากพม่าตั้งแต่ในสมัย
รัชกาลที่ 1 ตามกฎหมายไทยชาวต่างชาติไม่ได้รับ
อนุญาตให้ปลูกข้าว คนพวกนี้จึงปั้นหม้อและทำสวนผล
ไม้แทนเรายังไปแวะที่ตลาดสดที่ปทุมธานีด้วยตอนบ่าย
เราได้ศึกษาบทบาทของผักตบชวาในแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา
เราได้รู้ว่าแต่เดิมนั้นมาจากบลาซิลเมื่อสิบปีที่แล้วแม่น้ำ
เจ้าพระยาถูกปกคลุมไปด้วยผักตบและเมื่อน้ำดูเหมือน
ถูกปูด้วยพรมสีเขียวผืนใหญ่ ขยะไปติดบนนั้นผักตบ
เลยกลายเป็นปีศาจแห่งลุ่มน้ำเจ้าพระยา แต่วันนี้เราได้
เรียนรู้ว่าผักตบชวาเล่นบทพระเอกก็เป็นมีสิ่งมีชีวิตหลาย
สิ่งในแม่น้ำต้องพึ่งพาอาศัยผักตบเงาและรากผักตบออก
ดูดและดึงเอาสิ่งมีชีวิตที่อาศัยอยู่ระหว่างรากของมันออก
มาเราเจอหนอนตัวเป็นปล้อง หอยทากที่มีฝาและไม่มีฝา
ปูและกุ้งตัวเล็กๆ

On the boat, we were divided into
four groups taking turn as cooking
crew, cleaning crew, navigation
crew and word crew. It's already
clear what cooking and cleaning
crew do. Navigation crew checked
the thermometer and recorded the
weather features as well as predicted
the weather. Word crew planned fun
activities before meals and we
had many fun games.

บนเรือเราแบ่งกลุ่มออกเป็นสี่กลุ่ม และผลัดกันทำหน้าที่
ทำอาหาร ทำความสะอาด บันทึกการเดินเรือและเล่น
เกมมันเคลียร์อยู่แล้วว่าพวกทำอาหารกับทำความ
สะอาดทำอะไร ชื่อก็บอกอยู่แล้วส่วนกลุ่มบันทึกการเดิน
เรือดูปรอทและจดสภาพอากาศและคาดคะเน
สภาพอากาศในวันต่อไปกลุ่มคิดเกมวางแผนกิจกรรม
สนุกๆ ก่อนมื้ออาหารเราเล่นเกมสนุกกัน

I completely forgot that I was
supposed to be working. Everybody
was so much fun. Casey, an African
American, is lots of fun. In fact, all the
kids were fun. He tried to learn karate-do
from Tong. And Tong kicked his jaw.
That shut him up. We have had so many
laughs. Wish you were here though.
Hope you don't miss me so much.
I will be back on Thursday.
