At first I was glad that this is the first
week that I don't bring work home
and I have made no arrangements
with anyone. At 10 Nin called. I knew
right away what she wanted. I was in
a mood for a cappuccino an a muffin.
We went to Dunkins Donut. I know it's
not the best place to be but I got to satisfy
my craving somehow. We walked around
the mall a bit and I got some cosmetics.
Nin skipped her piano lesson again and
I knew why. It's nice to just send a certain
message and he/she knows all that needs
to be known. The minute I found out that it's
Nin on the phone, I knew that she had skipped
her lesson because she had had a bad morning
and that she needed some treat. As soon as
I picked up the phone, Nin said it's 10 o'clock.
She knows I hate getting calls in the morning
on the weekends. I call it the twilight zone- when
I wake up and when I'm about to fall asleep.
It's the time when I'm up but I don't want to be up.
Therefore I am not ready to socialize.
Two people like to call me at these time:
Ralph at 8.30 on weekend mornings and
Ping at 10.30 pm if she calls. I repeatedly told
Ralph not to call before 10 but it seems like
his age has failed him. Sometimes I know he
will call, so I unplug my phone the night before.
Call me mean, but I need my sleep. Good night.

ตอนแรกฉันนึกดีใจที่อาทิตย์นี้เป็นอาทิตย์แรกที่ฉันไม่ต้อง
หอบงานมาทำที่บ้านและไม่มีนัดกับใครเลย สิบโมงนิน
โทรมาฉันรู้ทันทีว่าเขาต้องการอะไรฉันกำลังนึกอยากคา
ปูชิโนกับมัฟฟินอยู่พอดี เราไปดันกิ้นส์ โดนัทกัน ฉันรู้ว่า
มันไม่ได้เริ่ดหรูอะไรแต่อย่างน้อยฉันก็ได้กินของที่อยาก
เราเดินเล่นในห้างนิดหน่อยและฉันซื้อเครื่องสำอาง
นินโดดเรียนเปียโนอีกแล้ว และฉันก็รู้ว่าทำไมพอฉันรู้
ว่าเป็นนินที่โทรมา ฉันรู้ทันทีว่าเขาโดดเรียนดนตรีและมี
ช่วงเช้าที่ไม่น่าจดจำเท่าไหร่ เขาต้องการอะไรดีๆ พอฉัน
คว้าหูโทรศัพท์มา นินพูดว่าสิบโมงแล้วนะ เขารู้ว่าฉัน
เกลียดที่คนโทรมาตอนเช้าวันหยุดฉันเรียกช่วงเวลานี้ว่า
ช่วงคาบเกี่ยว ตอนที่ฉันกำลังครึ่งหลับครึ่งตื่นมันเป็น
เวลาที่ฉันตื่นแล้วแต่ยังไม่อยากลุก ฉันจึงไม่พร้อมที่จะ
สมาคมกับใครนักมีคนอยู่สองคนที่ชอบโทรมาตอนช่วงนี้
คนแรกคือ ราฟ เขาชอบโทรมาตอนแปดโมงครึ่งของเช้า
วันหยุด อีกคนคือ ผิง เขาชอบโทรมาตอนสี่ทุ่มครึ่ง ถ้าเขา
โทรมานะ ฉันบอกราฟหลายครั้งแล้วว่าห้ามโทรมาก่อน
สิบโมงเช้าแต่ดูเหมือนว่าวันเวลาที่ล่วงเลยทำให้เขาไม่
เก็บคำที่ฉันบอกมาใส่ใจเลยบางทีฉันรู้ว่าเขาจะโทรมา
ฉันดึงปลั๊กโทรศัพท์ออกตั้งแต่ตอนกลางคืนเลย เธอจะว่า
ฉันใจร้ายก็ได้ แต่คนใจร้ายต้องนอนนะยะ ราตรีสวัสดิ์ย่ะ
