I helped Suay shopping for her wedding.
It was fun to be a bridesmaid, but not the bride herself.
We walked around Siam Square for hours trying
to pick out a dress for her engagement. Suay was
excited when we dropped in the first two stores.
So was I. Later, everything seemed the same.
It's just another gorgeous party dress.
We finally decided on one dress and I bought her
a necklace to go with it. We were happy at the end.
It's kind of fun because I don't get to go looking
at wedding dress every day. I got to see what they
have in the market and maybe when it comes
to my turn, I will know what to do.

ฉันไปชอปปิ้งสำหรับงานแต่งงานเป็นเพื่อนสวย เป็นเพื่อน
เจ้าสาวนี่ก็สนุกเหมือนกันนะ แต่เป็นเจ้าสาวนี่ไม่สนุกเลย
เราเดินสยามแสควร์จนทั่วเพื่อหาซื้อชุดใส่ในงานหมั้น
สวยตื่นเต้นมากเมื่อเราแวะเข้าไปร้านสองร้านแรก ฉันก็
ตื่นเต้นเหมือนกัน แต่พอดูๆ ไป ทุกร้านก็ดูเหมือนกันไป
หมด มันก็แค่ชุดสวยๆ ชุดหนึ่ง ในที่สุดเราก็เลือกชุดได้
ฉันยังซื้อสร้อยคอที่เข้ากันให้ด้วย เราพอใจมาก สนุก
เหมือนกันนะเพราะว่ามันไม่ใช่ทุกวันหรอกที่ฉันจะเดินไป
หาซื้อชุดแต่งงาน ฉันได้สำรวจตลาดไปด้วย บางทีพอถึง
ตาฉันบ้าง ฉันได้รู้ว่าจะทำอย่างไร

Bob, her fiance, is coming from America in ten days.
Talk about excitement. Suay technically and practically
knows nothing about getting married. She doesn't
even know how to put on her gown properly.
She needs a mentor and I'm an expert in this field.
You're right. She wants me to fly over to be with
her and give her moral support on her wedding.
That sounds like a great idea. The only reason
against it is that I will be working. I have to cancel
classes which can be difficult and irresponsible
toward my students but that's manageable.

บ็อบ คู่หมั้นของสวยกำลังจะมาจากอเมริกาในอีก 10
วัน อย่างนี้จะไม่ตื่นเต้นได้ที่ไหน สวยไม่รู้อะไรเลยเกี่ยว
กับการแต่งงาน ทั้งในด้านทฤษฎีและปฏิบัติ ใส่ชุดแต่ง
งานเองยังไม่ได้เลย เขาต้องมีพี่เลี้ยง แล้วบังเอิญฉันเป็น
ผู้เชี่ยวชาญสาขานี้เสียด้วยสิ ใช่แล้ว สวยอยากให้ฉันบิน
ไปให้กำลังใจในวันแต่งงาน ฟังดูเข้าทีนะ แต่ว่าฉันต้องทำ
งาน ฉันต้องงดสอน ซึ่งทำได้ยากมากและเป็นการทิ้ง
ความรับผิดชอบต่อนักศึกษา แต่มันก็พอทำได้

I have ambivalent feelings toward this trip.
I do want to go and also don't want to at the same time.
It's gonna be great to spend a week in San Francisco
with most of the expenses paid. I can also visit some
of my friends there. Suay and Bob won't have to take
care of me all the time. That's called killing two birds
with one stone. I can kill the third bird if I stop over
in Japan to visit Paul. The cons are that a week
to America is rather too short. I have to spend
almost two days on the plane and a week won't
allow me enough time to cope with the jetlag.
Besides, it will be during the semester. I don't
want to miss out on work.

ฉันไม่ค่อยแน่ใจเรื่องการเดินทางครั้งนี้ ฉันอยากไปและไม่
อยากไปในเวลาเดียวกัน มันคงสุดยอดเลยที่ฉันจะได้ไป
เที่ยวซานฟรานซิสโกตั้งหนึ่งอาทิตย์ โดยที่มีคนออกค่าใช้
จ่ายส่วนใหญ่ให้ ฉันจะได้ไปเยี่ยมเพื่อนคนอื่นๆ ด้วย สวย
และบ็อบก็ไม่ต้องคอยดูแลฉัน อย่างนี้เขาเรียกว่ากระสุน
นัดเดียวได้นกสองตัว จะสามตัวก็ได้นะ ถ้าฉันแวะไป
เยี่ยมพอล์ลที่ญี่ปุ่นระหว่างทาง ข้อเสียก็คือว่าไปอเมริกา
ทั้งที อยู่แค่สัปดาห์เดียวมันค่อนข้างจะสั้นไปหน่อย ฉัน
ต้องใช้เวลาเกือบสองวันในการเดินทาง และสัปดาห์เดียว
คงไม่พอสำหรับการทำให้หายเมาเครื่องหรอก นอกจากนี้
มันเป็นช่วงกลางเทอม ฉันไม่อยากขาดงานเลยจริงๆ
