A and I visited Me at the Novotel.
He's taking an internship this month.
I think he's very lucky to get training in
a reputable hotel even though it's not five stars.
He's even luckier for the position of a front desk officer.
Normally they won't put an intern up front because
front desk is everything to a hotel. When guests
come in and don't know where to start, they go to
front desk. When in-house guests have problems,
they call the front desk.

เอ๋กับฉันไปเยี่ยมหมีที่โรงแรมโนโวเทล เขาไปฝึกงานที่นั่น
เดือนนี้ ฉันว่าเขาโชคดีมากที่ได้ไปฝึกงานกับโรงแรมที่มี

I thought he got the position because
he speaks German but he told me that
not many German speaking guests come.
When they do, they can speak good English.
Me had a few tales to tell though. He said he got
some comment from his supervisor all the time.
One time A went to work with him. He started
at 2 and finished at 11 pm. Hotel staff get free
on-the-job meals. A went to eat in the canteen with him.
Another good one was the bakery incident.
The hotel bakery has a sale after 8 pm.
That's when it starts to pick up. Staff are not allowed
to buy it. Guess what he did. He changed out of his
uniform and bought some bakery for his auntie.
It's not a big deal if his supervisor didn't happen
to be looking for him at the same time. He should
not leave his position unattended. If he wanted to
go on a break, he had to tell them. Once she found
out that he was not there and that he went to the bakery,
she got something to say. I think it was very smart of him.
He knew that the rules were not practical and he knew
how to bend them. I'm talking about buying stuff at
the bakery. But that was no excuse for him to
abandon his counter.

พนักงานโรงแรมจะได้ทานอาหารฟรี หมีพาเอ๋ไปกินข้าวที่
ห้องอาหารพนักงานด้วย สมควรโดนอยู่หรอก อีกเรื่องคือ
เหตุการณ์ที่ร้านเบเกอร์รี่ ร้านเบเกอร์รี่ของโรงแรมจะลด
ราคาหลังสองทุ่ม ซึ่งเป็นช่วงที่เริ่มขายดี พนักงานโรงแรม
ไม่มีสิทธิซื้อ รู้ไหมหมีทำอย่างไร เขาเปลี่ยนชุดทำงานออก
แล้วไปซื้อขนมปังให้ป้าเขา มันไม่ได้เป็นเรื่องใหญ่อะไรกับ
การไปซื้อขนมปัง แต่เมื่อหัวหน้าเขาเห็นว่าเขาไม่อยู่ที่
เค้าท์เตอร์ก็เป็นเรื่องค่ะ เขาไม่ควรที่จะทิ้งงานมาอย่างนั้น

He also told me that staff are not allowed to
be the customers even when it's not your shift.
For example, he can't go to the disco or restaurant
in the hotel. This idea actually makes sense.
People working there are your colleagues
and it could be awkward when you have to
serve your colleagues. This is so unlike my job.
If my neighbors or nieces become my students,
I can treat them like students. I know where the
boundary between working life and personal life lies.
