Today I would like to tell you about Oedipus. Oedipus is a character in an early Greek tragedy.
At his birth, an oracle says that he will kill his father, take his throne and make his mother his wife.
Oedipuss father wont allow this to happen, of course, so he orders for Oedipus to be killed.
He is to be executed in a forest. But the executioner takes heart, and just leaves the baby Oedipus to his faith. |

วันนี้ฉันอยากจะเล่าเรื่องโอดิพุสให้เธอฟัง โอดิพุสเป็นตัวละครในโศกนาตกรรมของกรีกโบราณ ตอนที่เขาเกิดมา
โหรได้ทำนายไว้ว่าเขาจะฆ่าพ่อ ชิงบัลลังก์และ เอาแม่มาทำเมีย
แน่นอนอยู่แล้วว่าพ่อของโอดิพุสยอมให้มันเป็นอย่างนั้นไม่ได้ เขาจึงสั่งประหารโอดิพุสเสีย
เขาสั่งให้เอาเด็กไปฆ่าในป่าเสีย แต่ผู้ที่ได้รับคำสั่งใจอ่อน
และคิดว่าปล่อยให้เด็กน้อยโอดิพุสตายไปตามยัติถากรรมจะดีกว่า |

Someone form the next town comes by, picks him up and gives him to the king.
Prophecies are common things, so as Oedipus grows up he learns about his fate.
He does not want to commit patricide either, so he stays away from the guy whom he thinks is his father.
He travels to another town and kills an old man he has a quarrel with.
He also saves the people from that town from the sphinx. As a town hero,
he becomes king and takes over the old kings wife as well.
Later he finds out that the old king is in fact his biological father and his wife is also his mother.
He plunges out his eyes and live in self-exile. |

มีคนจากเมืองถัดไปผ่านมา เก็บเด็กไปให้เป็นบุตรบุญธรรมของเจ้าเมือง
โหราศาสตร์เป็นเรื่องธรรมดาในสมัยนั้น ไม่นาน เมื่อโอดิพุสโตขึ้นเขาก็ได้รู้ชะตากรรมของตัวเอง
เขาก็ไม่ได้อยากจะกระทำการปิตุฆาต เหมือนกัน เขาจึงพยายามอยู่ห่างคนที่เขาคิดว่าเป็นพ่อเข้าไว้
เขาเดินทางไปยังอีกเมืองหนึ่ง และฆ่าชายแก่ที่เขาทะเลาะด้วย เขายังได้ช่วยชาวเมืองจากสฟิงส์เสียด้วย
ในฐานะฮีโร่ ชาวเมืองจึงขอให้เขาขึ้นเป็นกษัตริย์แล้วรับเอามเหสีของเขาไปด้วยตามธรรมเนียม
ต่อมาเขาได้รู้ว่าชายแก่ที่เขาฆ่าเป็นพ่อที่ให้กำเนิดและภรรยาของเขาก็เป็นแม่เขานี่เอง เขาควักลูกตาตัวเองออกมา
และเนรเทศตัวเองออกจากเมืองมันเป็นโศกนาฎกรรม เพราะว่ามันเป็นเรื่องที่หลีกเลี่ยงไม่ได้

This is a tragedy because it is an inevitable loop.
An example from a common scene would be a jealous wife from a soap opera.
The wife suspects her husbands infidelity and chases him away with her unpleasantness.
He ends up fulfilling the prophecy by having another woman because he cant stand his wife. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy.
We can avoid such self-inflicted tragedy by not suspecting. If there is no problem, dont make one.
The evidence of trustworthiness will show itself in time. There is no need seek prove.
I wish we could understand life as easily as they way we see fiction.
I cant prove to you that I miss you and one day I will return to you. Just wait and see.

ตัวอย่างหนึ่งจากเรื่องที่เราเห็นบ่อย ๆ ก็คือ ยายเมียหวงผัวจากละครน้ำเน่านั่นเอง
ยายเมียสงสัยว่าผัวนอกใจจึงไล่เขาไปด้วยความร้ายกาจอาละวาดของตัว
เขาจึงนอกใจให้สมกับที่กล่าวหาไว้เพราะว่าทนยายเมียปากร้ายไม่ได้
มันเป็นคำทำนายที่ย้อนเข้าตัว เราสามารถหลีกเลี่ยงโศกนาฎกรรมที่เราก่อขึ้นเองได้โดยการที่ไม่สงสัยระแวงใคร
ถ้าปัญหามันยังไม่เกิดก็อย่าไปสร้างให้มันเกิดขึ้นมา
เราจะพิสูจน์ว่าใครเชื่อใจได้เชื่อใจไม่ได้ก็ต่อเมื่อมีเวลาเป็นเครื่องพิสูจน์ ไม่จำเป็นต้องหาหลักฐานที่ไหน
ฉันอยากจะให้ชีวิตเราเข้าใจง่ายเหมือนละครจัง ฉันไม่สามารถพิสูจน์ได้ว่าฉันคิดถึงเธอ
และวันหนึ่งฉันจะกลับไปหาเธอ เธอต้องคอยติดตามดูกันเอาเอง ราตรีสวัสดิ์จ๊ะกรุงเทพ |
