I was bewildered at the CD collections
at Pantip Plaza. I'm amazed at how much
work is done to serve us lazy people.
I mean people think of all these software
to ease their lives. My friend bought this
voice recognizing program called Dragon
Naturally Speaking. It sounds really cools.
What it does is that it takes notes of what
you say. Instead of typing, you can speak
into your microphone and the words appear
on your screen. Some shortcomings though.
Even-when-used-with-fast-computer-it-is-very-slow.
You-have-to-speak-word-by-word-like-this.
That was annoying. I can type faster than that.
Besides, it can only recognize English.
If you want to use it for your non-English
work, that's out of the question. Still,
the idea was great. |

ฉันตื่นตาตื่นใจกับเหล่าซีดีที่ขายที่พันธ์ทิพย์จริงๆ
ฉันแปลกใจมากที่เราพยายามอย่างมากที่จะรับใช้ขี้เกียจ
อย่างเราๆ ฉันหมายความว่ามีคนมากมายคิดค้น
ซอฟแวร์เพื่อให้เรามีชีวิตที่สบายขึ้น เพื่อนของฉันซื้อ
โปรแกรมถอดเสียงที่เรียกว่า ดรากอน เนเชอร์รัลลี
สปีคกิ่ง ฟังดูเก๋มากเลย โปรแกรมนี้จะเขียนข้อความที่
เราพูดลงในคอมพิวเตอร์ แทนที่จะพิมพ์ลงไป
เราสามารถพูดใส่ไมโครโฟน แล้วคำพูดของเราจะ
ปรากฏบนจอภาพ แต่มีปัญหาเล็กน้อย
ขนาด-ใช้-กับ-เครื่อง-ที่-เร็ว-เร็ว-มัน-ยัง-ทำ-งาน-ช้า-
อยู่-เรา-ต้อง-พูด-ที-ละ-คำ-อย่าง-นี้ น่ารำคาญมาก
ฉันพิมพ์เองเร็วกว่าเยอะ อีกอย่างมันทำงานได้กับ
ภาษาอังกฤษเท่านั้น ถ้าเธอจะใช้ทำงานอื่น
คงเป็นไปไม่ได้ อย่างไรก็ตาม ไอเดียนี้ไม่เลว |

I was tempted to buy many things.
I had to fight hard with myself not to spend
any money there. You might get robbed
in that place. If I were a programmer.
I would drop and cry when walking into
that place. One might have spend years
developing a cool software and then it is
sold at 100 baht a copy. That's not fair.
On the other hand, why should customers
pay more if they can get the same thing
for much cheaper price. |

คนพวกนี้อาจใช้เวลาเป็นแรมปี คิดเขียนโปรแกรมขึ้นมา

มันไม่ยุติธรรมเลย แต่อีกมุมหนึ่งคนซื้อจะจ่ายเงิน
เพิ่มทำไมในเมื่อเขาได้สินค้าชนิดเดียวกันในราคาที่ต่ำกว่ามาก |

The thought of new technology scares me
a bit since it makes almost everything possible.
It can even create a virtual world. We can't tell
what's real anymore. Video tapes or photos
won't be a reliable evidence in court since
you can edit everything and make it look so real.
Technology also makes it hard for us to
catch up with the world around us. Of course,
you can say no to all this, and continue to live
in precambrian age with your pet dinosaurs. |

ความคิดเรื่องเทคโนโลยีทำให้ฉันกลัวเล็กน้อย
ถึงปานกลาง เพราะว่ามันสามารถทำอะไรก็ได้
มันสามารถสร้างโลกจำลองยังได้ เราไม่รู้ว่าอะไร
จริงไม่จริงอีกแล้ว เทปและรูปภาพไม่สามารถ
นำมาใช้เป็นหลักฐานในศาลได้อีก เพราะเราสามารถ
สร้างอะไรก็ได้สมจริง ด้วยเทคโนโลยียังทำให้เราตามทันโลก
ได้ยากขึ้น แน่นอนที่ว่าเราจะปฏิเสธมันก็ได้
และอยู่ร่วมกับไดโนเสาร์ในยุคฑรีแคมเบรียนต่อไป |
