The other day, Simon told me a small bit of information he has learned. I'm passing this
on because I think it's interesting. He said in the City of London, which is the famous
square mile where financial institutions are, there is no 'road'. |

As I told you months ago, in this country they have similar street names such as York Street,
York Road, York Way and so on. But in the City of London, there are only 'streets',
no 'roads' because by definition a 'road' is a passage to somewhere. A road has to
take you somewhere, linking A to B. At this point, I dropped my jaw and raised my eyebrows.
I'm sure you are doing the same. Is there a 'road' that doesn't go anywhere?
There is. In the City of London, all of the strips of roads are called 'street' and
small allies are called 'court'. It is believed that the City of London is the center of
universe, well-contained within itself, and the streets lead to no where. What an egotistical thought. |

The City of London is a district of London, and it's just called 'the City' because it is 'The'
City. Nothing else can compare to it. I guess it's ok because we too call our city the
