Last time I told you about words on the windows and menus at the Slug and Lettuce.
Im sure you will wonder why Slug and Lettuce. My famous response is Why not?.
But I see your curiosity. Its just a name. Some bars are named so, two things put together.
For example, Pitcher and Piano. I cant think of any more on the top of my head.
But some bars are named something and something.
They might sound rather odd, but then everything in this country is odd.

เมื่อคราวก่อนฉันบอกเธอเรื่องคำที่อยู่ตามหน้าต่างและเมนูของร้านสลัคแอนด์เลกทัส
ฉันเชื่อว่าเธอคงสงสัยว่าทำไมต้องชื่อสลัคแอนด์เลกทัส คำตอบที่คลาสสิคของฉันก็คือ
ทำไมจะไม่ได้หล่ะ แต่ฉันเห็นความสงสัยใคร่รู้ของเธอ
มันเป็นเพียงชื่อเท่านั้นเอง บาร์บางที่มีชื่อในทำนองเดียวกัน
เอาคำสองคำมาไว้ด้วยกัน เช่นร้านพิชเชอร์แอนด์เพียโน
ฉันนึกตัวอย่างชื่ออื่นอีกไม่ออกในตอนนี้ แต่ร้านเหล้าบางแห่งชื่อแบบนี้จริง ๆ
อะไรกับอะไรสักอย่าง ฟังดูแปลกดีนะ แต่ในประเทศนี้อะไร ๆ ก็แปลกทั้งนั้น |

Another type of names I cant get around to is names like Kings Arm or the Queens Head.
It sounds really vulgar. But Arm in the Kings Arm means army.
So one of my problems is solved. I still have to find out whether Head
in the Queens Head is a real head or it has another meaning.
I know an English pub in Bangkok called the Bulls Head.
I think thats a bit better, but I am still not happy with it. I will ask Simon when he gets home.

ชื่อบาร์อีกประเภทหนึ่งที่ฉันไม่เข้าใจเหมือนกันและทำใจรับไม่ได้ก็คือ ชื่อ คิงส์อาร์ม
หรือแขนของพระราชา หรือร้าน ควีนสเฮด หรือ เศียรของราชินี ฟังดูสยดสยอง
แต่คำว่าอาร์มในชื่อผับแปลว่ากองทหาร ปัญหาจึงหมดไปหนึ่งอย่าง
แต่ฉันยังต้องรู้ให้ได้ว่าเฮดนี้เป็นเศียรของราชินี จริง ๆ หรือเปล่า
หรือว่ามีความหมายอื่นที่พอรับได้ ฉันรู้จักร้านผับอังกฤษในกรุงเทพร้านหนึ่งชื่อ บูลสเฮด
ค่อยดีขึ้นหน่อยแต่ก็ยังไม่ค่อยชอบอยู่ดี เอาไว้ให้ไซมอนกลับบ้านมาก่อนแล้วค่อยถามดีกว่า |
