When we are young, a year seems
forever because there are always
things to look forward to: the next birthday,
a new school year, a vacation, a relative's
visit, graduation. After graduation, life is
still on its way up. You spend your
adulthood job hunting, paying off the
house mortgage, building a new family
and raising a child. What else is there
after that: nothing. I haven't reached
that period of life yet, but I can see it's coming.
My time goes by so fast. Before I know it,
ten years will have passed and I will have
become old. Not sure about wise though.

ตอนที่เรายังเป็นเด็กปีหนึ่งๆ นี่นานชั่วกัปชั่วกัล เพราะว่า
มีสิ่งต่างๆ ให้ตั้งตาคอยเต็มไปหมดไม่ว่าจะเป็นวันเกิดปี
หน้า การเลื่อนชั้นเรียน เมื่อไหร่จะได้ไปเที่ยวนา ญาติจะ
มาเยี่ยมเมื่อไหร่แล้วอีกนานไหมกว่าจะเรียนจบหลังจาก
เรียนจบแล้วเส้นแห่งชีวิตก็ยังดำเนินต่อขึ้นไปเรื่อยๆ เรา
ต้องใช้เวลาช่วงวัยผู้ใหญ่ควานหางาน หาเงินผ่อนบ้าน
สร้างครอบครัวใหม่และเลี้ยงลูกแล้วหลังจากนั้นมีอะไร
ไม่มีอะไรเลยฉันยังไปไม่ถึงจุดนั้นหรอกนะแต่ฉันพอ
จะเห็นว่ามันใกล้เข้ามาแล้ว เวลาของฉันผ่านไปรวดเร็ว
มากกว่าฉันจะรู้ตัวเวลาก็ผ่านไปสิบปีแล้ว และฉันก็แก่
ตัวลงแต่ไม่แน่ใจว่าฉลาดขึ้นหรือเปล่า

Have you ever wondered why we are here
struggling? If you are good at history,
you will know that great men in history
have tried to explain the meaning of life.
You can choose to believe one of them
or go on living and find out the meaning
by yourself. My theory is that we are here
to find out why we are here. The meaning
is in the process, not the outcome. Once
we find this out, it's our time to pass on to
another world. Have you ever read something
about Dr. Froust. He is a great man with even
greater pride who makes a deal with the
demon that if the demon can make him admit
that life is worth living, he is willing to go with the
demon. That means he will have to die after
finding out the reason to live. It's kind
of paradoxical.

เธอเคยสงสัยไหมว่าเราทำไมจึงมาทนทุกขเวทนาอยู่
อย่างนี้ ถ้าเธอเก่งประวัติศาสตร์เธอจะรู้ว่ามีปราชญ์
หลายท่านแล้วที่พยายามอธิบายความหมายของชีวิตเธอ
อาจจะเลือกว่าจะเชื่อคนใดคนหนึ่งในหมู่ปราชญ์พวกนี้
หรือลองใช้ชีวิตและหาคำตอบดูเองทฤษฎีของฉันก็คือเรา
มาอยู่ที่นี่เพื่อหาคำตอบว่าทำไมเราทำไมเราจึงอยู่ที่นี่
ความหมายมันอยู่ที่ขั้นตอนและวิธีการไม่ได้อยู่ที่ผลลัพธ์
แต่พอเราไปถึงจุดนั้นมันคงถึงเวลาที่เราจะต้องไปอยู่อีก
โลกหนึ่งแล้วเธอเคยอ่านหรือได้ยินเรื่อง ดร.เฟราส์หรือ
เปล่า เขาเป็นคนเก่ง แต่หยิ่งทะนงในตัวเองมาก เขาพนัน
กับปีศาจว่าหากปีศาจสามารถทำให้เขายอมรับได้ว่าชีวิต
นี้มีคุณค่าน่าอยู่เขาจะยอมไปกับปีศาจ นั่นหมายความว่า
เขาต้องตายหลังจากที่ได้รู้เหตุผลในการมีชีวิตอยู่ ขัดกัน
