Big Issues! Big Issues! What is or are the Big Issues? Im not sure.
Its a magazine about homeless people. Not exactly.
Its a magazine about social welfare, to be more general and polite.
I have no idea what the content is. I only know that there are
a few scary looking people around town approaching you with a magazine
and saying Big Issues. Big Issue, please. I think these people are not necessarily homeless,
but they are certainly jobless. They are not begging either. They just sell Big Issues.
It doesnt look as if they make much money since they usually scare people away with their look.

เรื่องใหญ่ เรื่องบิกอิชชู เรื่องใหญ่ อะไรกัน ฉันก็ไม่แน่ใจเหมือนกัน
มันเป็นนิตยสารเกี่ยวกับคนไร้ที่อยู่อาศัย ก็ไม่เชิงหรอก มันเป็นนิตยสารเกี่ยวกับประกันสังคม
ถ้าหากว่าจะพูดให้กว้างขึ้น และไพเราะเข้าไว้ ฉันไม่รู้ว่าเนื้อหาข้างในเป็นอย่างไร
ฉันรู้เพียงแต่ว่าคนขายน่ากลัวมาก พวกเขาเดินขายตามเมืองแล้วจะทักเราว่า
บิกอิชชู บิกอิชชูไหมครับ/คะ ฉันคิดว่าคนพวกนี้ไม่ได้เป็นคนจรจัดเสมอไปหรอก
แต่ที่แน่ไม่มีงานทำชัวร์ เขาไม่ได้มาขอทานด้วยนะ เขามาขายบิกอิชชูเฉย ๆ ดูเหมือนว่ารายได้ก็ไม่ค่อยดี
เพราะลูกค้าส่วนใหญ่กลัววิ่งหนีกันหมด พวกเขามีอยู่ทั่วเมือง
นอกจากคนขายบิกอิชชูแล้วก็ยังมีขอทานเต็มขั้นอยู่ทั่วเหมือนกัน |

They are all over the place. Besides Big Issues sellers,
we have got proper beggars roaming the city. There are different kinds of beggars.
The kinds I hate the most are those with dogs.
Its not fair that someone begging on the street should have custody of a dog
while I havent. Its not fair for the dogs either.
Some beggars walk around and ask for change.
They are very polite though and they make you very guilty
by wishing you have a nice day after you lie to them that you have no change.
Giving money to beggars is never my policy. Besides, they really look scary.
Some of them ask you for a certain amount of money like Can you spare 20p, Miss?
I find it very offensive. If you are generous, you wont want an amount quoted from you.
Also I think it sounds really arrogant of them to demand such thing. |

ขอทานมีอยู่หลายรูปแบบ แต่แบบที่ฉันเกลียดที่สุดก็คือพวกที่เอาหมามาขอทานด้วย
มันช่างไม่ยุติธรรมเลยที่ขอทานมีหมาแต่ฉันไม่มี มันไม่ยุติธรรมต่อหมาด้วย
ขอทานบางคนเดินขอเศษเงิน พวกนี้สุภาพมากและทำให้เรารู้สึกผิดเวลาไม่ให้เงินเพราะว่า
เขาจะขอพรให้เราด้วย ขอให้เราสนุกกับวันของเรา หลังจากที่เราโกหกเขาว่าไม่มีเศษตังค์
ฉันไม่เคยมีนโยบายให้เงินขอทานอยู่แล้ว นอกจากนี้คนพวกนี้ดูน่ากลัวมาก
บางคนก็ขอเงินจำเพาะเจาะจงจำนวนมาเลย คุณพอจะมีเศษตังค์ซักยี่สิบเพนซ์ไหม
ฉันเห็นว่าหยาบคายมาก หากเราจะใจดีให้เงิน ไม่ต้องเจาะจงจำนวนหรอก

Another type is not a beggar, but they are charity worker or fund raiser,
just like Por Tek Teung in Thailand. They represent an organization,
but I dont like them either. If you want to give,
you go to a proper charity like Green Peace or Help the Blind or a Cancer Fund or the like,
not giving your account details and setting direct debits with strangers on the street.
I think that people that actually give their money are tricked or too polite to say no.
Its very easy for me to say no because Im a poor student,
and a pound here is equal to almost 70 baht.
How can I give that away while I myself need charity? Goodnight, Bangkok. |

อีกพวกหนึ่งไม่ได้เป็นขอทาน แต่เป็นคนทำงานการกุศล เหมือนพวกปอ เต็ก ตึ้งบ้านเรานี่หล่ะ
พวกเขามาจากองค์กรการกุศล แต่ฉันก็ไม่ชอบพวกนี้เหมือนกัน หากเราอยากจะให้
ก็ควรจะไปให้ที่องค์กรโดยตรงเช่น กรีนพีส ช่วยคนตาบอด หรือ โครงการวิจัยมะเร็ง
หรืออะไรประมาณนั้น ไม่ใช่ว่ามาให้รายละเอียดเกี่ยวกับบัญชีธนาคาร
และสั่งเงินโอนโดยตรงกับคนแปลกหน้าตามถนน ฉันคิดว่าคนที่ให้เงินคงถูกหลอกหรือไม่ก็ไม่กล้าปฏิเสธ
มันง่ายมากสำหรับฉันเพราะว่าฉันเป็นนักเรียนจน ๆ และเงินปอนด์หนึ่งที่นี่เกือบเจ็ดสิบบาทเชียวนะ
