Last night I went to an obliterati where a mentor, a colleague and a friend read part of his book.
He's one of the Bangkok expat writers. He retired last month. Roy and I bought him a guitar
and he loved it. He was really surprised. He couldn't even recognize the object when we gave
it to him. I'm happy that he's happy with his gift. He promised that he would sing something
for me at my farewell luncheon sometime next month. He will write a special song for me.

เมื่อคืนก่อนฉันไปงานโปรโมทหนังสือของอาจารย์ เพื่อนร่วมงาน และเพื่อนมา
อาจารย์ฉันเขาอ่านข้อความตอนหนึ่งจากหนังสือของเขา เขาเป็นนักเขียนต่างชาติที่อยู่ในกรุงเทพ
เขาเพิ่งจะเกษียณอายุเมื่อเดือนที่แล้ว ฉันกับรอยซื้อกีต้าร์ให้เป็นของขวัญ และเขาชอบใจใหญ่
เขาประหลาดใจมากเลย เขางงจนไม่ลืมหน้าตากีต้าร์ไปเลยตอนที่เราเอาไปให้ ฉันดีใจที่เขาชอบของขวัญ
เขาสัญญาว่าเขาจะร้องให้ฉันในงานเลี้ยงส่งฉัน ซึ่งจะมีขึ้นเดือนหน้า เขาจะแต่งเพลงพิเศษให้ฉัน |

After the book reading, we got talking to a few writers. One British guy got friendly with me
and signed me his book. He has such a strong accent that I started to understand him by
the third time I listened to him. I mean this was the third obliterate. I didn't understand what
he was saying for the first 2 times. This time I understood but didn't get him. Oh well,
he's a nice and smart guy. But I was under the impression that he's rather lonely.
Many writers are like that. Just them and their thoughts. I enjoyed the monologue with him though. |

หลังจากงานอ่านหนังสือ เราได้คุยกับนักเขียนอีกสองสามคน นักเขียนชาวอังกฤษคนหนึ่งเกิดเป็นมิตรกับฉันขึ้นมา
และเซ็นหนังสือให้ฉัน เขามีสำเนียงแปลกหูมาก ฉันเพิ่งจะเริ่มเข้าใจเอาครั้งที่สามที่มาฟังเขาอ่านหนังสือ
นี่เป็นครั้งที่สามแล้วที่ฉันมาฟัง แต่สองครั้งแรกฉันฟังไม่ออกเลยว่าเขาบ่นอะไร
แต่คราวนี้ฟังออกว่าเขาพูดอะไรแต่ไม่เข้าใจว่าเขาพูดเรื่องอะไร แต่เขาก็น่ารักดี และฉลาดด้วย
แต่ฉันคิดว่าเขาคงจะเหงา นักเขียนหลายคนเป็นแบบนั้น อยู่คนเดียวกับความคิดของตน ฉันฟังเขาคุยก็สนุกดี |

He's really kind and thoughtful. Oh! I'm supposed to e-mail him.
I will do it after this then. Well, he has some video tapes, some
documentary on British history to lend me.
