I was on the sky train today. During the ten
minutes I spent on the BTS, I didn't know
how many times I heard phones ring.
I must have looked mad smiling to myself,
listening to various tunes. The Mission Impossible
and Superman themes were the popular ones.
Was this supposed to be a sign of modernization
of IT era, riding on a sky train and talking on
mobile phone? It was funny looking around at
people who stay on the phone. Many times,
I saw a few people at a table in a restaurant talking
on the phone instead of their companions who sit in
front of them. Why should they bother to get together?
They don't even talk to each other. They should just
stay at home and use the phone.

วันนี้ฉันได้นั่งรถไฟฟ้า ในช่วงเวลาเพียงสิบนาทีที่ฉันอยู่
บนบีทีเอส ฉันไม่รู้ว่าได้ยินเสียงโทรศัพท์ดังกี่รอบ ฉันคงดู
เหมือนคนบ้าที่ได้แต่นั่งยิ้มอยู่คนเดียวขณะที่ฟังเสียง
เพลง เสียงต่างๆ จากโทรศัพท์ เสียงดนตรีจากหนังเรื่อง
Mission Impossible และ Superman เป็นที่
นิยมมาก นี่ถือเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของชีวิตที่เริ่ดหรูในยุค
ข้อมูลข่าวสารหรือ มันตลกมากที่ฉันมองไปรอบตัวแล้ว
เห็นคนหลายคนใช้โทรศัพท์อยู่ มีหลายครั้งที่ฉันเห็นคนใน
ร้านอาหารที่นั่งโต๊ะเดียวกันแต่คุยโทรศัพท์อยู่ แทนที่จะ
คุยกับเพื่อนร่วมโต๊ะ แล้วจะนัดเจอกันทำไมหล่ะนี่ ทั้งๆ ที่
มาเจอกันแล้วไม่คุยกัน เขาน่าจะอยู่บ้านแล้วคุยกันทาง
โทรศัพท์มากกว่า

Why do I hate other people's phone so much?
Well, they get calls and I don't, so I'm jealous.
Ringers drive me crazy. When I'm in a restaurant,
I have to listen whether its' my phone or not.
Most of the time when people call me, I don't hear
it because my phone is in my bag, buried under
thousands other things. I am so mad that I turn
my phone off sometimes, so I don't have to listen for it.

ทำไมฉันจึงเกลียดโทรศัพท์ของคนอื่นมากขนาดนี้หรือ
เพราะว่ามีคนโทรมาหาพวกเขาแต่ไม่มีใครโทรหาฉัน
หน่ะสิ ฉันจึงอิจฉา เสียงโทรศัพท์ทำให้ฉันเสียสติ ตอนที่
ฉันอยู่ในร้านอาหาร ฉันต้องคอยเงี่ยหูฟังว่าโทรศัพท์ที่ดัง
อยู่เป็นของฉันหรือไม่ ส่วนใหญ่เวลาที่มีคนโทรมา ฉันจะ
ไม่ได้ยิน เพราะฉันใส่โทรศัพท์ไว้ในกระเป๋า ซึ่งเต็มไปด้วย
สมบัติอีกล้านแปด บางครั้งฉันรำคาญมากจนต้องปิด
โทรศัพท์ตัวเอง ฉันจะได้ไม่ต้องคอยฟังว่าใช่โทรศัพท์ฉัน
หรือเปล่า

The truth is that I usually dream that a phone
is ringing. Then I will wake up. In real life,
I am not sure whether I'm dreaming and
will wake up soon when I hear an alarm
clock or a phone. I know it's weird, but that's me.
Don't you ever get it sometimes? I wish to see
Mr. Freud soon so that he can interpret my dreams
and my phobia of telephones for me. I should go
to bed now. Please don't try to wake me up with
any ring. Good night, Bangkok.

ความจริงก็คือ ฉันมักจะฝันว่าโทรศัพท์กำลังดังแล้วฉันก็
รู้สึกตัวตื่นขึ้นมา ในชีวิตจริง ฉันไม่แน่ใจว่าฉันกำลังฝันอยู่
และอาจกำลังจะตื่นขึ้นหรือเปล่าเวลาที่ได้ยินเสียง
โทรศัพท์ดัง หรือเสียงนาฬิกาปลุก ฉันรู้ว่ามันฟังดูแปลก
แต่นี่ก็เป็นฉัน เธอไม่เคยเป็นหรือ ฉันอยากจะเจอฟรอยด์
จัง จะได้ถามเขาว่าเขาจะตีความฝันและอาการหวาด
โทรศัพท์ของฉันว่าอย่างไร ฉันต้องไปนอนแล้วนะ ช่วย
