Do you know what is the first thing
I do after I get up? I mean after opening
my eyes, throwing the alarm clock across
the room and actually getting my bed out
of bed. Once I walk downstairs, I look for
my dearly beloved dog, my Little Tiger.
He doesn't have to be there. I just want to
know where he is. Sometimes he goes out
for a walk in the soi on his own. What an
independent dog! Before you know it, he
can feed himself and drive to work.

เธอรู้ไหมว่าสิ่งแรกที่ฉันทำหลังจากตื่นนอนคืออะไร
ฉันหมายถึงหลังจากที่เปิดตา ขว้างนาฬิกาปลุกข้ามห้อง
และลุกออกจากเตียงไปแล้ว พอฉันเดินลงมาข้างล่าง
ฉันจะมองหาหมาสุดที่รักของฉัน เสือน้อย มันไม่จำเป็น
ต้องอยู่หรอก ฉันแค่อยากจะรู้ว่ามันอยู่หรือเปล่า บางที
มันก็ออกไปเดินเล่นในซอย ช่างเป็นตัวของตัวเองจริงๆ
พอรู้ตัว มันก็โตพอที่จะหาข้างกินเองแล้วก็ขับรถไปทำ
งานเองได้

I used to have a dog for 14 years.
He died a few years back. After that
I got a puppy and named him after the first dog.
A week later, he ended up in the garbage bin.
He got run over in the morning of the seventh day.
My mom said it's unlucky to name the puppy
after the late dog. I have to agree, don't I?

ฉันเคยเลี้ยงหมาตัวหนึ่งมา 14 ปี มันตายไปเมื่อไม่กี่ปีที่
แล้ว หลังจากนั้นฉันก็เอาลูกหมามาเลี้ยงแล้วตั้งชื่อตาม
หมาตัวเดิม เอามาเลี้ยงได้อาทิตย์เดียวมันก็ลงไปนอนใน
ถังขยะ มันโดนรถทับในตอนเช้าของวันที่เจ็ด แม่ฉันว่ามัน
เป็นลางร้ายที่จะตั้งชื่อหมาตัวใหม่ตามหมาที่ตายไป ฉัน
คงต้องเห็นด้วยใช่ไหม

I remember that morning very well.
I got up and walked downstairs. I asked my
dad where Mit was. He said the dog was in the bin.
"What?! What was he doing in the bin?" was my
response. What a horrible joke to make on
a Saturday morning! It was true. My dad was
not joking. He said Mit must have gone outside
through a gap in the fence. I looked in the
garbage bin and saw no blood or anything.
But he was not breathing.

ฉันจำเช้าวันนั้นได้ดี ฉันตื่นนอนขึ้นมาแล้วก็เดินลงมาข้าง
ล่าง ฉันถามพ่อว่ามิตรไปไหน พ่อบอกว่ามันอยู่ในถังขยะ
อะไรนะ แล้วมันไปทำอะไรในถังขยะ มาล้อเล่นอะไรกัน
แต่เช้าวันเสาร์ แต่มันเป็นเรื่องจริง พ่อฉันไม่ได้ล้อเล่น
พ่อบอกว่ามิตรน้อยคงลอดรั้วออกไป ฉันไปดูในถังขยะแต่
ไม่เห็นมีเลือดเลย แต่มันก็ไม่หายใจแล้ว

I guess if my dog goes missing, I'd like to
be the first know-not that a few days go buy
and I start wondering "What happened to that
dog I used to have? I haven't seen him around
for days? What's his name, by the way?"

ฉันคิดว่าถ้าหมาฉันหายไป หรือเป็นอะไรไป ฉันอยากเป็น
คนแรกที่ได้รู้ ไม่ใช่ว่าผ่านไปสองสามวันแล้วมานั่งถาม
กันว่า เอ๊ะ ไอ้หมาที่ฉันเคยเลี้ยงไว้แถวนี้หายไปไหนนะ ไม่
เห็นมาตั้งหลายวันแล้ว มันชื่ออะไรนะ
