I went to the Slug and Lettuce, which is a franchised bar and restaurant in England,
and learned a lot of new words from the menu.
They do bar and cafe food, but nicer as far as English food goes.
They do wholesome hamburgers, sandwiches and salad,
and all those light bites. They spell it lite bites though.
Normally we dont eat at that kind of place, a place without a character,
such as McDonalds and the like. Simon just took me there out of tourist curiosity.
I know that pub food is usually stodgy and tasteless,
but I still want to try some of the local colours.
I would like to get a greasy fish and chip and kebab sometimes,
so I tell you of my life in England.

ฉันไปร้านสลักแอนด์เลกทัสมา ซึ่งเป็นร้านอาหารและบาร์
ในเครือที่มีอยู่ทั่วอังกฤษ และฉันก็ได้เรียนรู้คำใหม่หลาย
คำจากรายการอาหาร เขาเสิรฟอาหารเบา ๆ
ตามแบบคาเฟ่ทั่วไป แต่ดีกว่าอาหารตามบาร์แบบอังกฤษหน่อย
เขาทำอาหารจำพวกแฮมเบอร์เกอร์ แซนวิชและสลัดที่สดและมีประโยชน์
และอาหารกินเล่นเบาท้อง ที่เขาสะกดเก๋ ๆ ว่า lite bites ปรกติแล้ว
เราไม่กินอาหารในที่แบบนี้หรอก ที่ๆ ไม่มีความเป็นตัวของตัวเอง
เช่นแมคโดนัลส์อะไรประมาณนั้น ไซมอนพาฉันไปตามประสานักท่องเที่ยว
อยากรู้อยากเห็น ฉันรู้ว่าอาหารในผับนั้นส่วนใหญ่จะหนัก
และไม่มีรสชาติ แต่ฉันอยากลองสีสันของท้องที่นั้นบ้าง
ฉันอยากกินฟิชแอนด์ชิบที่มีน้ำมันเยิ้ม และเนื้อย่างเคบาบบ้าง
ฉันจะได้เอามาเล่าให้เธอฟังได้ เรื่องการใช้ชีวิตของฉันในอังกฤษ |

Anyway, on the windows and menus of the Slug
and Lettuce run words about food like munch, nibble, gob, gulp, gnaw and peck
and a couple more which I dont remember.
I think its interesting because all these words sound colourful and appetising.
Instead of eat, you have munch and gulp.
I can hear food and drink going down someones throat.
Yummy. Peck and nibble are how you eat your food,
a little bit at a time as if you are not hungry at all.
The idea is that the food is provided and you can eat it however you want.

เอาเถอะ บนกระจกหน้าต่างและรายการอาหารของร้านสลักแอนด์เลกทัส
เขาเขียนคำเกี่ยวกับอาหารเช่น munch, nibble, gob, gulp, gnaw และ peck
และคำอื่นอีกสองสามคำแต่ฉันจำไม่ได้หมด ฉันคิดว่ามันน่าสนใจดี
เพราะคำพวกนี้ฟังแล้วมีสีสันและทำให้อยากกินอาหารมาก แทนที่
จะใช้คำว่ากินเฉย ๆ เขาก็พูดถึงเสียงขบเคี้ยว เช่นกรอบและกรึบ
ทำให้เราได้ยินเสียงอาหารและเครื่องดื่มผ่านลำคอ น่าหม่ำ
จิกและเล็มเป็นวิธีการกินของเรา กินเล็กกินน้อยเหมือนกับว่าไม่ค่อยหิว
ความคิดของร้านนี้ก็คือ เขาทำอาหารให้เรา แล้วเราจะกินอย่างไรมันก็เรื่องของเรา |
