Weve found another cool place in Nottingham: the Sugar Bar.
Its like discovering a gemstone in a big pile of cow dung.
At the Sugar Bar, a variety of music is played all week.
We usually go on Wednesdays when a live Latino band plays.
My friends and I love salsa dancing. The bar has a very nice atmosphere.
The dance floor is crowded with fabulous dancers. |

One disappointment though: those fabulous dancers never ask me to dance.
I often pair up with someone clumsy or a foot shorter.
There is this guy, David, a friend of a friend. Hes black Californian, natural dancer.
Black men in general are always good dancers, better than white men.
He thought of me as a charity case. It was nice of him.
I was sitting quietly watching other people having fun.
He thought I was miserable, so he danced with me for a few songs.
Hes a good dancer but
you knew there was a but coming,
didnt you?.. hes about a foot shorter than I am.
All right all right, not a foot, maybe eight inches shorter. |

Apart from that, I dance with Angela and enjoy our power struggle.
I, naturally a stronger dancer, should dance the male part.
But Angela with a mind of her own refuses to be led.
So our dance looks more like a wrestling match.
Our deal is to take turns being a leader, though Angela always cheats |

Talking about disappointments. One always follows another.
My friends are real disappointments, classless students.
They like to go early in the evening. If you go before 10 oclock,
you dont have to pay admission. Also they like to stay until the end of the night.
We are often the last people to leave, which is so uncool.
You dont go to a party early and leave late.
You are a real sad case with nothing to do if you do. In my case,
I have to wait for them since we all go home together.
It would be rude of me to go home on my own.
Next time I think I just wont go all together. |

Having said all this, I truly think the Sugar Bar is a great place.
I just have to find the right dancer. |
