Today my friend Maya told us over dinner that she finally got a part-time job.
We were all excited about her job since she had been wanting to get one ever since.
And if her job sounded interesting we might consider working too. She told us that she
work in the university canteen. I didn't know what my face said to her but her reply was
"That's not nice, Sam." |

วันนี้มายาเพื่อนของฉันเล่าให้ฟังตอนกินข้าวว่าเขาได้งานพิเศษทำแล้ว
พวกเราตื่นเต้นกันใหญ่เพราะว่าเขาอยากได้งานมาตั้งแต่ไหนแต่ไร
และถ้าหากงานที่เขาทำฟังดูน่าสนใจ พวกเราก็จะออกหางานกันบ้าง
เขาบอกว่าเขาทำงานที่โรงอาหารของมหาวิทยาลัย ฉันไม่รู้เหมือนกันว่าสีหน้าฉันเป็นอย่างไร
แต่มายาบอกว่า "เธอไม่น่ารักเลย" |

To be honest with you, I do have feelings and I did feel bad that Maya thought that I
looked down on her honest job. But what should I have said? That it was good for her and
I wished she kept it up all her life? I'm sorry I'm not a 'supportive kind of friend.
If you make a bad move, I will be friendly enough to tell you that you screw up.
Maya is undoubtedly a good friend. She's bright and she is hard working.
She wanted to get a part-time job only because to earn some extra money.
She doesn't even have to. Her parents are loaded. But she is working in this canteen,
serving rotten undergraduate brats. |

Half way through dinner, she admitted that she didn't like the job even though it had only
been one week. I was not surprise. She had worked for 6 hours and gets 5 pounds an hour,
which is not bad at all for a catering job. It would be scary if she learned to enjoy it and
wanted to make a living out of it. She agreed with me, so why didn't
she like it when my face told her so. |

ในระหว่างกินข้าว มายาก็ยอมรับออกมาว่าเขาไม่ชอบงานของเขาหรอก
ถึงแม้ว่าเพิ่งจะเริ่มทำได้อาทิตย์เดียว ฉันไม่แปลกใจเลย เขาได้ทำงานมาแล้ว 6 ชั่วโมง
และได้ค่าจ้าง ชั่วโมงละ 5 ปอนด์ซึ่งไม่เลวเลยทีเดียวสำหรับงานตักอาหาร
มันจะน่ากลัวมากกว่าถ้าเขาเกิดชอบงานนี้ขึ้นมา แล้วบอกว่าจะทำงานนี้เลี้ยงชีพ
เขาเห็นด้วยกับฉันแต่ทำไมเขากลับไม่พอใจหล่ะเวลาที่สีหน้าฉันบอกเขาว่าอย่างนั้น |
