On the last day, we didn't walk so much simply because we could not.
However, our feet did not get a rest though. We had to stand in the
cold at the Gare du Nord for over 2 hours waiting to board our train.
It was not fun and it was a bad way to end a trip. We could not wait
to leave Paris. The problem with the Eurostar was that an earlier
train was cancelled and the passengers on that train were put
onto our train and the one before us. Basically, they gave our seats,
booked months ago, to other people and pushed us onto the next train.
We were sitting in our fold-up seats next to suitcase racks in between
the coaches drinking our Champaign and feasting on our Maltesers.
It was not warm there and the seats were not comfortable but we
made the most out of what we had. It was our roomy private
compartment where we could talk as loudly as we wanted to
regardless of people walking past us during the 3-hour journey.
We arrived 2 hours and 50 minutes later than we should have.

We finally got home, cold, hungry and tired.

วันสุดท้าย เราไม่เดินมากนัก เพียงเพราะว่าเราเดินไม่ไหวแล้ว
กระนั้นก็ตามเท้าของเราก็ไม่ได้พักเลย เราต้องไม่ยืนตากอากาศหนาวที่การ์ดูนอร์
เป็นเวลากว่าสองชั่วโมง เพื่อรอขึ้นรถไฟ มันไม่สนุกเลยและเป็นการส่งท้ายการ
ไปเที่ยวที่แย่มาก เราแทบจะอดใจรอที่จะไปจากปารีสไม่ไหว ปัญหาของยูโรสตาร์ก็คือ
รถไฟขบวนก่อนหน้าเรานั้นถูกงดไป และผู้โดยสารจากขบวนนั้นถูกจัดให้มา
ขึ้นรถขบวนของเราและขบวนก่อนหน้านั้นอีกขบวนหนึ่ง พูดง่ายๆ ก็คือ
เขายกที่นั่งของเราที่จองไว้ล่วงหน้าเป็นแรมเดือนให้คนอื่นไป แล้วย้ายเราไปนั่งรถขบวนอื่น
เราต้องนั่งเก้าอี้พับ กลางทางเดินตรงรอยเชื่อมระหว่างขบวน ข้างชั้นวางกระเป๋า
นั่งไปพลางดื่มแชมเปญกับกินชอคโกแลตมัสทีสเซอร์ไป มันไม่อุ่นเลย
และที่นั่งก็นั่งไม่สบาย แต่เราก็พยายามทำให้มันเป็นเรื่องสนุกไป
มันเป็นห้องโดยสารส่วนตัวของเรา เราคุยเสียงดังได้ไม่ต้องเกรงใจ
คนที่เดินผ่านไปมาในช่วงเวลาสามชั่วโมงของการเดินทาง เรามาถึงที่หมายช้า
ไปกว่ากำหนด สองชั่วโมงกับห้าสิบนาที ฉันจะนับเป็นวินาทีให้ก็ได้นะถ้าเธออยากรู้จริงๆ
ในที่สุดเราก็กลับถึงบ้านด้วยสภาพที่ต้องทนหนาว ทนหิว และทนเหนื่อย

The worst part of it was the wait. We didn't know what was
going on. We were told that we could not check in.
Actually we were barred from it. The announcement said
that 'Due to the large number of passengers and tight
security procedure (my behind), check-in time will take
longer than usual today.'. A few hundred people stood
in the cold, not knowing whether we would make it home
at all that night and when the wait would end. Luckily,
we were not hungry nor needed the bathroom.

ส่วนที่แย่ที่สุดก็คือการรอคอย เราไม่รู้ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้น เรารู้เพียงแต่ว่าเชคอินไม่ได้
จริงๆ แล้ว เราถูกกั้นไว้ไม่ให้เข้าไปเชคอิน เขาประกาศว่า
"เนื่องจากมีผู้โดยสารจำนวนมาก และมีการควบคุมความปลอดภัยแน่นหนา
(กับผีหน่ะสิ) เราจึงใช้เวลาเชคอินนานกว่าปรกติ" คนสองสามร้อยคนต้อง
ยืนท่ามกลางอากาศหนาว ไม่รู้ว่าจะกลับถึงบ้านหรือเปล่า และไม่รู้ว่าจะต้องรอถึงเมื่อไหร่
โชคดีที่เราไม่หิวหรืออยากเข้าห้องน้ำ

The next morning we heard on the radio about the
Eurostar worker strike and were not surprised.

เช้าวันรุ่งขึ้น เราได้ยินข่าวทางวิทยุว่าพนักงานของยูโรสตาร์หยุดงาน
ประท้วงอีกแล้ว ไม่น่าแปลกใจเลย
