For the past few months, I have been embassy
hopping. I went to the Japanese, British and
American embassies in that order. Therefore,
I would like to compare them.

ช่วงสองสามเดือนที่ผ่านมานี้ ฉันวิ่งเข้าวิ่งออกสถานฑูต
หลายแห่ง ฉันไปสถานฑูตญี่ปุ่น อังกฤษ และอเมริกา

Of course, we have heard that embassies
can be nonsensical. People are refused
a simple tourist visa for no reason. It's even
difficult for a young single Thai woman travelling
alone to get a visa. I was mad at people who
make generalizations and believe in
stereotype. I still am.

แน่นอนเราเคยได้ยินว่าสถานฑูตงี่เง่าบ้าง บางคนขอวีซ่า
นักท่องเที่ยวธรรมดาก็ไม่ได้ และยากมากสำหรับผู้หญิง

Anyway, just one day before I went to the
Japanese embassy, a colleague who has
been to Japan said that I ought to bring
everything. Everything means everything
ranging from, the birth certificate, house registration,
ID card, financial statement, account book,
resume, degree certificate, letter from employer,
house, land or business ownership certificate-original
and photocopies. Luckily, I am not married. Otherwise,
there will be a marriage certificate, and my spouse's
credentials as well. I should bring everything, not
because it's required but just in case they ask for it.
I'm just telling you what I was told, alright?

At the American embassy, it's worse. It says
in the handout that each applicant is treated
case by case. All you have to do that show
your strong attachment to your homeland.
How do I produce a certificate for that?
My blood check didn't say how thick my
'Thai blood' was. And how do I know whether
my paper is strong enough? So a well-organized
person such as myself brought everything.

The preparation for the trip to the British
embassy was exceptional since I hold
an official passport and got letters from the
universities. The only challenge the trip shared
was getting there on time or in time. The visa
section of all embassies opens at 7 and they
can be closed as early as 9 for god knows why.
