Food stalls start to crowd Ta Phrachan.
When I was in the first year of college,
they were ordered to keep off Ta
Phrachan footpath. I can still remember
fish balls swimming in a hot frying pan
along the road. Passer-bys had to be
careful not to go swimming with the fish
(balls). We had to walk on the street
because that was the only safe way
to get around. Sure, we love the food,
but we also love our peaceful footpath-literally
means path for feet! Those who use it
for other purposes might get feet on the path.

หาบเร่แผงลอยบุกยึดท่าพระจันทร์อีกแล้ว ตอนฉันเป็น
นักศึกษาปีหนึ่ง พวกหาบเร่แผงลอยถูกสั่งห้ามขาย
บริเวณทางเท้าท่าพระจันทร์ ฉันยังจำลูกชิ้นปลาว่ายลอย
คออยู่ในกะทะน้ำมันร้อนๆ ริมถนน คนที่เดินผ่านไปมา
ต้องห้ามใจไม่ลงไปว่ายน้ำ(มัน) กับ (ลูกชิ้น) ปลา เรา
ต้องลงไปเดินบนถนนเพราะว่านั่นเป็นทางเดียวที่จะเดิน
ได้อย่างปลอดภัย หนีกะทะปะรถเมล์จริงๆ จริงอยู่ที่เรา
ชอบอาหารพวกนี้ แต่เราก็รักทางเท้าแสนสุขของเรา
เหมือนกัน ชื่อก็บอกอยู่ว่าเป็น ทางเท้า แปลว่า ทาง
สำหรับเท้า หากใครใช้ทางเท้าเพื่อวัตถุประสงค์อื่น อาจ
เจอเท้าที่อยู่บนทางได้ นะจ๊ะ จะบอกให้

Now food stalls have made their
come back. It's not as crowded
as before, yet. Our footpath still
serves our feet, but I might have
to swim with the fish one day.
Why am I against food stalls so much?
Well, they feed my belly and keep me
well-nurished. I can't stop myself from
buying if I see all those tempting fish
balls, deep-fired bananas, Chinese
dumplings, and Japanese crepes.
Just talking about them upset my appetite.

ตอนนี้หาบเร่แผงอลยบุกกลับอีกแล้ว ทางเดินยังไม่แน่น
เหมือนแต่ก่อน รออีกหน่อยเถอะ ตอนนี้ทางเท้ายังรับใช้
เท้าเราอยู่ แต่ฉันอาจต้องไปว่ายน้ำกับปลาสักวัน ทำไม
ฉันต่อต้านหาบเร่แผงลอยนักหรือ เพราะว่าพวกนี้เลี้ยง
พุงฉัน และทำให้ฉันอุดมสมบูรณ์ ฉันหยุดที่จะซื้อไม่ได้

In the evening, there are even more
stalls for "custom made" food.
On the way home today, I saw some
familiar happy faces. They were just
eating with friends. I saw two of my
students sitting with their friends from
the football club at a long table.
I knew this because they used to
write a journal about their club.
These two students looked miserable
in my class. Who can blame them?
This evening, they wore big smiles
on their faces. I was glad that I got to
see such a lovely picture. Further
along the street, I saw two other girls
laughing with friends. They looked
very happy and I felt happy with them.
I, on the other hand, had to rush home
and catch up with life. I really wanted
to go out tonight, but I had no idea
where to. Besides, I will meet up
with Pin tomorrow night. We might
go to a jazz pub or something.

ตอนเย็นยังมีร้านขายอาหารตามสั่งริมถนน ระหว่าง
ทางกลับบ้านวันนี้ฉันเห็นคนหน้าคุ้นๆ หลายคน พวกเขา
ทานข้าวอยู่กับเพื่อน ฉันเห็นนักเรียนของฉันสองคนนั่งอยู่
กับเพื่อนที่ชุมนุมฟุตบอลเป็นโต๊ะใหญ่ ฉันรู้ว่าเป็นชุมนุม
ฟุตบอลเพราะว่าเขาเคยเขียนเล่าให้ฟังในสมุดบันทึกของ

เราอาจจะไปฟังดนตรีแจสที่ผับสักแห่ง

The sky was darkened by black
clouds in the early evening.
It barely rained though. Were
you just kidding with us? Not very
funny. I ran like crazy. Next time
just pour down. Don't let me run
for nothing. Good night, baby.

เมื่อตอนเย็นท้องฟ้ามืดครึ้มเพราะเมฆฝน แต่ฝนไม่ยักกะ
ตกสักเม็ด หลอกเราเล่นเหรอ ไม่ตลกสักนิด ฉันวิ่งเหมือน
คนบ้า ทีหลังจะตกก็เทลงมาเลย อย่าปล่อยให้ฉันหน้า
แตกวิ่งเก้อ ฝันดีนะจ๊ะที่รัก
