I have noticed that road system here is as confusing as its transport system.
When walking around town, I try to locate a sign saying what street I'm on.
It's difficult to find one. Signs are usually on the second story of the buildings
on the corner and that's it. You won't be reminded agian. Sometimes I check
all the corner buildings and find none. What's more, roads here share the
same name. In Nottingham, there are roads called Carlton Road, Carlton
Avenue and Carlton Street. The fun doesn't stop there. Some roads have
different name. I mean the same strip of road is referred to differently, just
like Phra Sumen and Phra Athit Road in Bangkok. One part is called Phra Sumen.
Then after a corner at the fort, that bit of road becomes Phra Athit. Roads here are
not set in blocks like those in America. Streets are confusing just like in Thailand.
You think that if you turn left three times, it will take you to the same spot.
Good thinking, but no. You are at your own luck. No logic involved. |

ฉันสังเกตเห็นว่าระบบถนนหนทางที่นี่สับสนพอ ๆ กับระบบขนส่งเลย เวลาเดินไปไหนมาไหน
ฉันพยายามมองหาป้ายบอกชื่อถนน หายากมาก ป้ายมักจะอยู่บนชั้นสองของตึกหัวมุมถนน
แล้วมีป้ายเดียวเท่านั้น ถ้าลืม ไม่มีใครมาบอกเตือนนะ แต่บางทีฉันดูทั่วตึกแล้วแต่หาชื่อถนนไม่เจอ
ยังไม่หมดเท่านั้น ถนนหลายสายใช้ชื่อเดียวกัน เช่นในน็อตติ้งแฮม มีถนนชื่อคาร์ลตัน
ทั้งคาร์ลตันโรด คาร์ลตันแอเวนนู และคาร์ลตันสตรีท ยังไม่หมด ยังมีเรื่องสนุกต่อ
ถนนบางสายมีหลายชื่อ เหมือนถนนพระสุเมรุกับถนนพระอาทิตย์ในกรุงเทพ
ถนนส่วนหนึ่งชื่อพระสุเมรุ แต่พอผ่านป้อมมาเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นพระอาทิตย์ ถนนไม่เป็นบล็อกเหมือนในอเมริกาด้วย
เธอคิดว่าถ้าเธอเลี้ยวซ้ายสามทีจะกลับมาที่เดิมได้ คิดดี แต่ฝันไปเถอะ พึ่งได้แต่โชค อย่าคิดถึงเหตุผลเลย |

The next challenge will get to catch a bus, and I mean really 'catching' it.
You don't know when buses will come. There is a schedule, but they come
when they come. That's why many people prefer to walk. Trains are always late
and I don't understand why poeple don't do anything about it.
They complain to one another but never to any authority. If this were in America,
the railway will spend most time in court. |

Buses are irregular. I remember that all the buses in Nottingham were changed in October,
after I got a hang of how they work. I was waiting for the bus number 12 from the city
center to come home. There was no sign of the bus, so I asked people around me.
They told me that that bus no longer stopped at that stop and the bus went to
somewhere else I didn't recognize. Then they told me that all services had been
changed since the beginning of that month. OK, that made a lot of sense to me. |

รถเมล์ก็มาบ้างไม่มาบ้าง ฉันจำได้ว่าระบบรถเมล์ที่น็อตติ้งแฮม เปลี่ยนใหม่หมดตอนเดือนตุลาคมที่ผ่านมา

I'm in England, an inefficient place. Nothing works. You cannot plan your day.
I wonder how people expect you to be on time if everything is like this. |
