Guess what!
เป็นการแนะนำเข้าสู่เรื่องที่เราอยากพูด ส่วนใหญ่คนที่เราพูดด้วยไม่ลองทาย
หรือทายก็ไม่ถูกหรอก ตรงกับภาษาไทยว่า "เธอรู้อะไรไหม" Guess
what! หรือ You know what! เพื่อนก็จะตอบว่า "รู้อะไรหรือ"
หรือ What?
Run into เป็น 2-word
verb แปลว่าเจอโดยบังเอิญ หากเป็นคำกริยากับคำบุรพบทจะแปลว่า วิ่งเข้าชน
เช่น run into the wall
A friend of mine
เพื่อนของฉัน อาจพูดได้อีกอย่างว่า one of my friends หากเราจะเอาคำนามขึ้นต้นและไม่ใช้คำคุณศัพท์แสดงความเป็นเจ้าของ
(possessive adjectives เช่น my, your, his, her) เราต้องใช้ possessive
pronouns แทน เช่น mine, yours, his, hers) เช่น
He is a good friend of hers, isn't he?
That cat of yours almost got run over by a motorcycle.

เป็นสำนวน ดังนั้นจึงไม่เป็นไปตามกฏเหมือน a friend of mine เราไม่พูดว่า
for the life of mine สำนวน for the life of me แปลว่า ต่อให้ฆ่าตายก็ทำไม่ได้
ส่วนใหญ่จะใช้บอกว่านึกไม่ออกจริง ๆ I can't
remember, for the life of me. อีกสำนวนที่ใกล้เคียงกันคือ
to save my life เช่น
Tida is awful at karaoke. She can't sing
to save her life.
