Off the top of my head เป็นสำนวนแปลว่า เท่าที่นึกได้ โดยไม่ต้องหาข้อมูลเพิ่มเติม เท่าที่จำได้ในหัว ณ ขณะนั้น เวลาที่มีคนมาถามอะไรแล้วเราไม่รู้ เราอาจตอบได้ว่า I don’t know off the top of my head. Let me look it up. ฉันไม่รู้ ให้ฉันหาข้อมูลก่อนนะ เวลาที่เราใช้สำนวน off the top of my head เป็นการออกตัวว่าสิ่งที่เราพูด อาจจะไม่ถูกต้อง แค่นึกขึ้นได้ จำได้ลอย ๆ

He’s a fan. เวลาเรานิยมชื่นชอบสนับสนุนผลงานของนักแสดง หรือ ทีมบอล เราอาจพูดได้ว่าเราเป็น fan เช่น

I’m a Julia Robert fan. I have seen every movie she is in.
He’s a Man-U fan. That’s why he doesn’t like Liverpool supporters.

หากไม่ใช้คำว่า Fan เราอาจใช้คำว่า support หรือ supporter ได้ เช่น Which team do you support? พูดเป็นไทยได้ว่า คุณเชียร์ทีมไหน

look for, search แปลว่าค้นหา

try searching on the Internet ลองค้นหาบนอินเตอร์เน็ต คำว่า ‘try’ ในที่นี้แปลว่าลอง หรือ ทดลอง ไม่ใช่ พยายาม ในบริบทนี้คำวา try ต้องตามด้วย verb-ing หรือคำนาม

เช่น They don’t have it in this shop. Let’s try the one down the road.
Let’s try looking in a bigger store.
ในกรณีที่ Try แปลว่าพยายาม จะตามด้วย to + verb

เช่น I tried to be on time.
He tried to make her feel better.

Why don’t you…? เป็นการเสนอแนะ ให้คำแนะนำ เช่น You look tired. Why don’t you get some sleep? เธอดูเหนื่อย ทำไมไม่ไปนอนหล่ะ
