This sounds rather grander than it is. Giving information to general public is a more humble way to put it.
For instance, if your office has moved to a different address, you will have to inform your correspondence.
Another example is when you launch a marketing project or arrange an event.
Making announcements is similar to ‘advertising’.
The example below is an interoffice announcement of a new staff.
Dear colleagues,
As of 1 November 2003, Ms. Catherine Brown will join our sales team as
an assistant product manager. Ms. Brown has valuable experiences in sales,
accounting and product analysis. In her spare time when she is not after hard sales,
she enjoys swimming and playing tennis.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Brown to our family
and making her a part of our successful team.
Sincerely yours,

Making announcement is quite difficult in its simplicity. You only want to pass on some information,
but you don’t want to sound abrupt or authoritative. If you could begin your letter with a ‘cushion’, please do.
But you will sound silly if you merely invent things to say.
For example, if you would like to announce an event, you can lead in by introducing the event.
Christmas in but once a year, and there is no better place to look for gifts for your nearest
and dearest. Central has extensive collections of contemporary giftware that would put the smiles
on the faces of your loved ones.
You can end on a more friendly, informal note; for example,
See you at Central.
Please drop in to see us. Our helpful staff will be happy to help you.
