Writing letters never ends. Once you have received a letter offering condolence,
you should reply with thanks when you are in the state fit enough to communicate.
However, keep it short. Do not share details of your difficulties.
Below is an example of such reply. It is in relation to the letter from Lynn Young expressing her
sympathy towards the Browns’ family regarding the loss of their son.
Dear Ms. Young,
We thank you for your heartfelt condolence.
We truly appreciate your kind words and cannot thank you enough for your kind support at the funeral.
On behalf of the Browns’ family, we thank you again for everything.
Best regards,
James and Barbara Brown

Just a short note full of thanks is enough for this occasion.
If you can, it is a good idea to add specific thanks for the person’s help.
Here are some expressions you may find useful:
Thank you for your
sincere condolences/ expression of sympathy.
Thank you for being with us/ sending your warm thoughts/
your encouragements during our difficult time.
Thank you for taking care of Peter while I was in hospital. I could not have managed without your help.
